President of the Republic visits Cadet Winter Camp at Udbina
The President of the Republic of Croatia as the Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces Kolinda Grabar–Kitarović on 8 February 2017 visited the Winter Camp of the cadets of the Croatian Defence Academy, conducted in the Barracks “Josip Jović” at Udbina from 29 January to 10 February 2017.
The President was accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov and the Commander of the Croatian Defence Academy Lieutenant General Slavko Barić.
The President observed the realistic training of the cadets, who demonstrated the acquired skills at various workposts: the patrol base, shelter building, fire lighting and keeping, operating in improvised shelters in winter conditions and the armed reconnaissance and attacking the enemy positions. The President congratulated the cadets on the performance and underlined the importance of the training model employed by the Cadet Battalion, which at once enabled the trainees learn to survive and operate in winter conditions and promoted teamwork.
The President commended the performance and the motivation of the cadets and said they were a promising future personnel of the Croatian Armed Forces.
The Commander of the Cadet Battalion of the Croatian Defence Academy, Lieutenant Colonel Tomislav Kasumović briefed the President on the objectives of the camps, co-organised by the Cadet Battalion and the Special Forces Command, and presented the daily activities of the cadets during the Winter Camps 2 and 3.
The event was a part of the training of the 2nd year cadets within the Winter Camp 2 and the 3rd year students of the Military Study Programmes engaging a total of 157 cadets. The Winter Camps are the pinnacle of the cadets’ military training, as they combine the military skills acquired during the past camps and are complemented with an intensive survival and winter training. The 3rd year cadets were assigned the roles of commanders, whereby they tested their planning, organising, conduct, decision making and reporting skills, to prepare them to assume officer duties later in their careers.
