Prime Minister and Defence Minister visit Petrinja Barracks

The “Pk Predrag Matanović” Barracks in Petrinja was today, 5 March 2013 visited by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Zoran Milanović, by the Defence Minister, Mr. Ante Kotromanović and by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Drago Lovrić, accompanied by the Army Commander, Maj. Gen. Dragutin Repinc, the Support Command Commander, Maj. Gen. Mate Ostović, the Head of the Logistics Directorate of the General Staff, Col. Ivica Olujić and the Motorised Guard Brigade Commander, Col Boris Šerić.

The Defence Minister presented to the Prime Minister the Barracks as the prototype for the 21st century, stating that the «Pk Predrag Matanović» Barracks is of strategic importance for the Army and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia as a whole and that it is planned to be developed as modern installation with accomodating capacities, in conformity with the top military standards found in the world.

The Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Lovrić underlined the intention to convert the barracks into a modern installation with additional amenities for the soldiers accomodated in it. The General briefed the Prime Minister on the status of the works completed and on the pending tasks.

The delegation visited the existing accomodation facilities and some of the newly built ones. The Prime Minister was briefed on the plans for construction of new facilities with the company-size capacity, and saw the display of the Armoured Modular Vehicles 8X8 “Patria” with crews and equipment, namely the AMV equipped with the PROTECTOR remote weapon station for the 12.7 mm machine gun and the vehicles re-equipped for medical evacuation (AMV Med) and logistic use (AMV Log) respectively. The storage and repair capacities for the “Patria” vehicles were  also included in the visit.

Summing up the visit to the Barracks in Petrinja the Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction, saying that the Barracks’s condition exceeded his expectations.”The Republic of Croatia will pursue the option to keep small-sized yet professional and efficient Armed Forces. We shall also continue equipping the acquisitioned “Patria” vehicles”.
