Promotion of first pilot students independent flights

Promotion of the first independent flight of 9 pilot students on the Pilatus PC-9M plane and a BELL 206B helicopter was held today, November 10, in 93rd Airbase in Zemunik. On this occasion, pilot students were congratulated by the special guest, top athlete Blanka Vlasic.

Marking the first solo flight in this way again revived a tradition that is used in many militaries around the world.

“I accepted with pleasure the invitation to be a godmother. I am honoured that I was the godmother of this generation’s pilot students”, Blanka said, adding that she hoped to get acquainted a little more with the aircraft. Impressions were excellent and she would like to learn to fly. On the runway, where pilots and flight instructors were lined up she was brought by Zlin-242 L aircraft. She wished pilot students all the success and happiness in a flight career, presented their certificates, and toured the pilot accommodation in the Aircraft Squadron. Pilots thanked her in their own way – by an acrobatic over flight with Pilatus PC-9.

Commander of the 93rd Air Base, Colonel Miroslav Kovac also congratulated students on their first solo flights. “The first solo flight is a special event and experience that we all pilots carry in memory. Although this is only the first step and start of the training process, an independent flight is an indication that you are well on your way to further your education and develop a successful flying career”, Colonel Kovac said, and concluded that to become the Croatian military pilot was a challenging and honourable task. He also thanked the technicians and flight instructors who were very much responsible for the first successful solo flight of future pilots of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence.
