“Jean de Vienne” Frigate visits Croatian Navy
From 8 – 12 March 2013 the French anti-submarine frigate «Jean de Vienne» is visiting the Croatian Navy and Split.
The visit is to include the meeting of the Croatian Navy Commander, Commodore Robert Hranj with the Ambassador of the French Republic to the Republic of Croatia, Ms Michelle Bocoz, and a reception for the senior military, political, economy and culture officials organised by the Ambassador and the Frigate Commander, (N) Captain Pierre-Yves Grante.
During the docking of the Frigate in the the Lora Naval Base the underwater deminers of the Croatian Navy flotilla and the French Navy will conduct joint training, continuing the years-long successful co-operation of the two Navies in diving and demining activities. Furthermore, co-operation with the visiting Croatian officers and divers aboard the French vessels yielded valuable exchange of experience.
“Jean de Vienne” is an anti-submarine frigate whose roles include anti-submarine combat in the open sea, the search-and-rescue operations and control of respect of the international law at sea.
The „Jean de Vienne“ frigate was laid down in 1979. Its length is 138,61 m, width 14,02 m and draught 6,10 m. The crew totals 225 persons (21 officers, 113 NCOs and 91 crew members), commanded by the Navy Captain Pierre-Yves Grente.
On one of its mission undertaken off the Somali coast in January 2009 the Frigate took part in salvation of the Croatian merchant ship “Donat” of the Zadar „Tankerkomerc“ Marine Transportation Company.
