Record attendance at “Open Day”
On the occasion of the commemoration of the Victory Day, the Homeland Gratitude Day, the Croatian Defenders Day and the 19th Anniversary of the Operation «Storm», the 93rd Croatian Air Force and Air Defence Base organised the «Zemunik Barracks Open Day» on Tuesday, 5 August.
The Base displayed the overhauled MIGs-21 to the public for the first time, including the popular red-and-white checks-painted aircraft. A special eye-catcher were the five fighters flying in formation and landing at the Zemunik Barracks following the display in commemoration of the 19th anniversary of the Operation «Storm in Knin. The ceremony also featured the flying programme by the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence pilots on the ZLIN 242, the PC-9M and the Bell 206 helicopters, and the Air Tractors and Canadair crews demonstrating a water dropping procedure in a firefighting operation, and was concluded by a performance by the Croatian aerobatic team «Krila Oluje», which was Major Vrđuka’s (the Team Leader) 100th performance.
With nearly 4000 visitors, this has been the best attended «Open Day» at the Barracks so far. Along with the military aviation museum, the airplanes and helicopters used by the Croatian pilots, the visitors had also a rare opportunity to see a 83 years old restaurated plane«Polikarpov Po-2», flewn by pilot Matko Raos from Split.
