Record fire-fighting season 2012

Aircraft of the CAF Fire-fighting Task Force (CAF FF TF) had in this year’s a record-breaking fire-fighting season. In a period from 15 May to 20 August 2012, they were engaged in a total of 248 different fires sites.

 

During this period, CAF FF TF ground fire-fighting forces were also engaged five times.
In this period, during fire-fighting activities six CL-415 Canadairs achieved a total of 733 flight hours, having dropped 5.688 water bombs, or 34.128 tons of water. Canadairs spent 687 011 litres of fuel.

Five fire-fighting Air Tractors achieved a little less than 400 flight hours, and dropped 1673 water bombs or 5019 tons of water and spent 112 237 litters of fuel.

Mi-8 MTV1 transport helicopters achieved 97 flight hours and dropped 660 fire buckets or 1.320 tons of water. Helicopters spent 63 801 litres of fuel.

Altogether, all CAF FF TF fire-fighting aircraft in a period from 15 May to 20 August 2012 achieved 1226 flight hours, dropped more than 8 000 water bombs, or 40 467 tons of water, and spend 863 049 litres of fuel.
