Round table on draft of National Security Strategy

The hearing was also attended by Defence Minister Davor Bozinovic, Minister of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity, Tomislav Ivic, Advisor to the President of the Republic on Defence Zlatko Gareljic and MOD State Secretary Pjer Simunovic with representatives of the working group that drafted the strategy.
Representatives of veterans’ organizations that participated in the discussion generally supported the draft and expressed their opinions and made a number of constructive comments and suggestions on the draft of the National Security Strategy of the Republic of Croatia, which will be, as Minister Bozinovic noted, considered with utmost seriousness. “We wanted an open debate, and we got it”, said Minister of Defence. He expressed satisfaction that the first round table on this document was organized with the veterans who have shown how to successfully defend the Republic of Croatia and protect national security. He thanked them for everything they have done for Croatia in preserving and disseminating the truth about the Homeland War, which, as he said, “is inseparable part of the Croatian national identity” and that should be one of the basic postulates on which we base state and national strategies. Stressing the importance of making the National Security Strategy, Minister Bozinovic noted that this was a document that defines national security policy, and sends a political message to the world about our seriousness on the international scene.
Minister Ivic praised that a round table discussion on this important document was held with veterans without whom there would be no free and independent Croatia, adding that the national documents should be adapted to changes in the international arena, in which we should always take care to emphasize the significance and importance of the Homeland War.
Advisor to the President of the Republic for Defence Gareljic said that the National Security Strategy of the Republic of Croatia was a specific document, and that today’s debate was certainly a step forward in the formulation of the final text of the Strategy.
