SFC Pero Bertović Fittest CAF Soldier
The member of the Croatian Army’s Military Intelligence Battalion, Sergeant First Class Pero Bertović is the winner of the “Fittest Croatian soldier 2014” competition held at the “Eugen Kvaternik” Training Range near Slunj on 23 May 2014.
The event involved 107 competitors of the Croatian Armed Forces and of the Police, along with international participants from Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Slovenia and NATO commands in Naples and Brunssum. The first runner-up was SFC Alexander Janko from Austria, as the best performing international competitor.
The second runner-up was Sergeant Dalibor Vondra of the Military Intelligence Battalion.
The competition valued knowledge, military skills and psychological and physical preparedness, which were to be demonstrated along the 37.5-km path comprising 10 workposts. It commenced at 6.am on 23 May 2014, based on the results of the previous day qualifications scores (from rowing and shooting practice).
The winning competitor reached the finish at 12.40, and was congratulated by the Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Vice Admiral Ante Urlić and the representatives of the Ministry of Defence and of the Croatian and foreign armed forces, who were observing the competition.
Defence Minister emphasised that by opening the competition to foreign participants it was upgraded, and that more novelties could be expected next year.
Vice Admiral Urlić stated that the winner and the other members of the Croatian Armed Forces alike demonstrated their readiness to complete the tasks for the benefit of the Croatian citizens.
