Split hosts the 20th A- 5 CHODs Conference
The 20th U.S.-Adriatic Charter Nations CHODs Conference was held in Split on 30 November 2016. It was co-chaired by the Deputy Commander EUCOM, Lieutenant General Timothy M. Ray and the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov.
The Conference was attended by chiefs of defence of the members of the Ul.S. Adriatic Charter – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Republic of Macedonia and the observer countries (Slovenia and Kosovo), as well as by the Adjutants General of the U.S. partner states National Guards.
The participants reviewed the activities conducted since the past conference and discussed the modalities of future co-operation aimed at enhancing security and sttability in southeast Europe, with the emphasis placed on the development of interoperability of the Charter member countries.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov stated that the Republic of Croatia viewed the U.S. Adriatic Charter as the critical instrument to support Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro towards NATO membership, which is the principal goal of the initiative.
The Deputy Commander of EUCOM, Lieutenant General Thimothy M. Ray praised the efforts by Croatia related to the implementation of the U.S.- Adriatic Charter.
By signing the “Joint Declaration of the Chiefs of Defence of the U.S. Charter Nations“ the Croatian Armed Forces have pledged to continue supporting the Charter to build stable environment by implementing NATO politiical goals in southeast Europe.
