Squadron of Austrian Pilot School visits Zemunik
Ten pilots and two aircraft technicians of Pilot School of the Austrian Air Force from Zeltweg with six Pilatus PC-7 aircraft landed on 22 November 2011 in Zemunik barracks, for a two-day working visit to the Aircraft Squadron (EA) of the 93rd Air Force Base of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence.
A visit was a continuation of a successful long-term cooperation between Croatian and Austrian pilots, and this activity was used to train crews in the tasks of intercepting targets in the air. After the Austrian aircraft entered the Croatian airspace, they were intercepted by Croatian pilots on Pilatus PC-9M, and escorted until landing in Zemunik barracks. Support for the interception and joint flight was provided by air surveillance and navigation battalion (ZMIN) of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence.
Austrian squadron was welcomed by commander of the Aircraft Squadron Major Mario Plesa that pointed out that this was a good way for the continuation of good relations between the two air forces, and a new opportunity for discussion on joint activities and exchange of experience in flying training and training of military pilots.
Commander of Pilot School in Zeltweg Major Alexander Koll thanked Croatian Squadron for warm welcome. “The experience of joint flight with Croatian colleagues is very special and we are impressed by the reception in the air, after which we flew together to Zemunik. This is our first joint flight and it was truly a special experience for all Austrian pilots”, Major Koll said after landing on the runway.
