The Fittest CAF Soldier Competition Opened

The Special Operations Battalion’s Barracks “Drgomalj” in Delnice on 14 May 2013 saw the opening of “The Fittest Croatian Armed Forces Soldier” Competition titled “The Fittest for Croatia 13”.

The Competition was opened by the Commander of the Special Operations Battalion, Lt. Col. Dražen Ressler, who underlined that military skills, endurance and courage were highly significant elements for the country’s and the community’s safety and that regular exercising undoubtedly contributed to combat readiness. He also pointed out that mastering different military skills optimised the performance of the members of the Croatian Armed Forces in international missions and operations.

The number of the participants this year is 109, exceeding all previous competitions, and includes members from all Commands and units of the Croatian Armed Foces, joined for the first time by participants from the Ministry of the Interior. Another particularity this year is a female participant, member of the Special Operations Battalion.

This year’s competition route is over 30 km long, stretching across highly demanding terrain and comprises eight work posts (assembling weapons, throwing training hand grenades, map orienteering, transporting a casualty and operating radio communications; crossing the barrier in NBC contamination conditions using a net, crossing the barrier using the rope, operating the MILES anti-tank device and shooting with the HS 2000 pistol from the 15-m distance).

The competition will be conducted in the “Drgomalj” Barracks in Delnice and in the town’s surroundings (the neighbouring Lokve municipality and the nearby lake).
The  award ceremony is scheduled on 17 May, the final day of the competition.
