The opening of the international exercise “Saber Guardian 17”
The International exercise “Saber Guardian 17” kicked off in the Command of the Multinational Division at Novo Selo in Bulgaria on 11 July 2017, with the participation of the members of the Croatian Armed Forces.
The Exercise “Saber Guardian 17”, with the USAREUR and the Bulgarian Armed Forces as the lead organisations, will be conducted at several locations in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. The logistic centres are located in the Training Range “Novo Selo“ in Bulgaria and in the Mihail Kogalniceanu (MK) airbase in Romania. The Headquarters Multinational Division and the Exercise Command are based at Novo Selo in Bulgaria.
Four members of the Croatian Armed Forces, headed by the National Representative to the International Exercise “Saber Guardian 17”, Major Samir Mršić of the Guards Motorised Brigade of the Croatian Army, have been assigned to the Command Post, with the co-ordination of all participating Croatian components.
“Saber Guardian 17“ involves over 25,000 personnel of the U.S. Army in Europe and from 22 allied and partner countries. The Croatian Armed Forces are taking part in the exercises “Getica Saber”, “Brave Warrior” and i “Black Swan”, with a total of 258 members.
The objective of the Exercise is to demonstrate the readiness of the collective defence, through a cluster of exercises titled “Tobruq Legacy”, “Peace Sentinel”, “Eagle Sentinel”, “Mascal”, “Dacian Guardian”, “Getica Saber”, “Black Swan”, “Brave Warrior”, “Swift Response” and “Dragon Guardian”.
The purpose is to promote stability and security in the Black Sea Region, the strengthening of partner capabilities, the enhancing of trust and improvement of interoperability between the armed forces of the allied and partner countries.
