THS crew supports safety and environment actions in Velebit Mountain
The Mi-8MTV crew of the Transport Helicopter Squadron of the 93rd Croatian Air Force and Air Defence on Wednesday 10 September delivered 5 tons of construction material to build the mountain lodge at Vlaški grad in Velebit Mountain
and disposed of over a ton of waste from the Ivine Vodice locality that were only transportable by a military helicopter. The activity was a part of the “Green Sweep” campaign.
The crew was assisted by the members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service and of the «Paklenica» Alpine Club from Zadar. The helicopter crew Captain, Cpt. Ante Siniša Kozina stressed the demanding character of the campaign (the external load generating extra pressure on the helicopter ). The unloading was carried out at the altitude of 1250 m, necessitating excellent trainedness and competence of the entire crew.
“The Croatian Air Force and Air Defence continues supporting the civilian institutions’ environmental and tourist projects. Today’s action contributes to safety for mountain hikers and nature lovers, and indirectly to reduced number of requests for search-and-rescue missions. On the other hand, the mountain cleaning campaign is our contribution to environmental protection and cleanliness of Velebit Mountain”, said Captain Kozina.
