Transfer of duty of 93rd Air Force Base Commander

A ceremonial handover of duty of the 93rd Air Force Base Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence, between the former Commander Colonel Miroslav Kovač and the new Commander Lieutenant Colonel Karol Lučan was conducted today, on Tuesday, July 10, in Zemunik Barracks.

The former Commander, Colonel Miroslav Kovač was on the post for the last five years, and from 1 July he was appointed as Chief of Staff of the Air Force and Air Defence. In the presence of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence Commander Brigadier General Dražen Šćuri, Colonel Kovač handed the commanding to Colonel Karol Lučan.

After the flag handing ceremony Brigadier General Šćuri said that the 93rd Air Force Base created pilots for the entire Air Force and Air Defence, conducted humanitarian missions for the community through the air fire-fighting, medical flights and search and rescue, and provided support to the Coast Guard and actively participated in international peace support missions. Through the contacts and activities with other NATO armed forces and partner countries, 93rd Air Force Base has been recognized as a unit of high potentials and possibilities, and as a service of the Armed Forces, in the best way it is presented by air-show group “Wings of Storm”.

“These are all distinctive mission that this unit makes a pivotal unit of the Air Force and Air Defence”, General Šćuri said when thanking the former Commander Kovač on the successful performance.

 

The new base commander Lieutenant Colonel Karol Lučan was born on 18 January 1966 in Vukovar. He is married and father of three children. He has been a member of the Armed Forces since 1991, and during Homeland War he served in Helicopter Squadron in Divulje. During his military service, he was, inter alia, assigned as commander of 20th transport squadron in the 95th Air Force Base, as assistant military attaches in the U.S., as staff officer for relations with NATO / PfP in the Directorate for defence planning and international military cooperation. He was assigned to the duty of the 93rd Air Base Commander after the completion of the War College “Ban Josip Jelačić.” He was several times praised and awarded for achievements in the service. He completed several military courses in the United States, Austria, Germany, Belgium and France.

Lieutenant Colonel Lučan is aeronautical engineer and captain of the transport and combat helicopters.
