U.S. Navy 6th Fleet flagship visits Split

The flagship of the U.S. Navy 6th Fleet, the “USS Mount Whitney”, will visit Croatian Navy and city of Split from 2 to 5 December 2010.

During its stay, a meeting is planed between the 6th Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Harry B. Harris with the Deputy Commander of the Croatian Navy, Rear Admiral Tihomir Erceg, and a meeting between the Commander of the “USS Mount Whitney” Captain Jeffrey S. Ruth with the Croatian Navy Fleet Commander Captain Marin Stosic.
Also, members of the “USS Mount Whitney” will visit Croatian Navy ships, while members of the Croatian Navy will visit “USS Mount Whitney”.
The flagship “USS Mount Whitney” is 195 meters long with the possibility of boarding the helicopter and the entire command with the necessary command and communications elements. “USS Mount Whitney” has been commissioned to the U.S. Navy since 1971, while it became the flagship of the 6th Fleet in 2005. The last visit of the “USS Mount Whitney” ship to Split was in March 2008.
