Visit to NATO by the Defence Minister of the Republic of Croatia
The Croatian Defence Minister Josip Buljević met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at NATO Headquarters in Brussels on 11 April 2016.
They addressed the priorities of the upcoming NATO summit to take place in Warsaw from 8-9 July 2016, which will focus on the future steps towards long –term adjustment to altered security environment at the Alliance level.
The Secretary General and the Minister also discussed the security threats along the eastern borders of the Aliance and in the Croatian neighbourhood, particularly those occuring in southeast Europe.
NATO Secretary General underlined the importance of the stability of southeast Europe for NATO and Europe. The two sides concluded that the Euro-Atlantic processes contributed to the increased stability and security in the region and welcomed the prospective signature of the Agreement on the Accession of Montenegro to NATO.
The Croatian Minister reaffirmed Croatia’s strong commitment to the membership in NATO, and pledged the support to the neighbouring countries in their own integration into NATO and the EU and to assist them by transfering its know-how and its own experiences.
The Minister also visited the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Croatia to NATO, where he held meetings with Ambassador Boris Grigić, the Croatian Permanent Representative and with the Croatian Military Representative to NATO and the EU, Major General Mate Pađen.
