Minister Vukelic visits City of Varazdin
Defence Minister Branko Vukelic and his associates visited on Friday, March 5, the City of Varazdin, where he met with City Mayor Ivan Cehok.
On this occasion, Minister Vukelic and Mayor Cehok signed the agreement of the handover of the former barracks – the last of the barracks in Varazdin. According to Mayor Cehok, barracks will be converted into a place that will have economic, tourist and public purpose. As Mayer Cehok said, all military facilities handed over to the City became centres of the city’s economic development. Minister Vukelic said Varazdin’s example was exactly the case how non-perspective military facilities should be converted. “What Varazdin has so far made with former military facilities is an example of how the conversion should be done and how these facilities should be used as soon as possible for the wellbeing of the City, citizens, economy, and education”, Minister said. “By this handover, the last soldier leaves the City, however, the cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the City of Varazdin does not end”, said Minister Vukelic. The emphasis will be on further economic cooperation and engagement of companies from this area in supplying the Ministry of Defence and Croatian Armed Forces. “Varazdin County and the city have good companies, with far greater resources than those used today”, said Minister Vukelic. Ministry of Defence in the last two years launched a series of projects aimed at maximum use of Croatian economy and companies when it comes to the supply of goods and services for the MOD.
After the working meeting, Minister Vukelic and Mayor Cehok visited the former barracks were after the handover subsidized flats were built.
