Marking of Navy Day started
Commemorative activities marking the Day of the Croatian Navy and 19 anniversary of establishment of the Croatian Navy started in Ploce, on Friday, September 17.
The first in a series of activities of the Croatian Navy, organized on the occasion of its day was an underwater ecological cleaning action of port of Ploce. During several hours of cleaning, Navy divers extracted big amount of waste materials from the seabed. Residents of Ploce welcomed and praised this action with great satisfaction. Then the Navy ships sailed into harbour. Berthed at the Passenger coast, they were opened to visitors and aroused the interest of citizens of Ploce, especially younger ones, who came in great numbers to visit the ships. In addition to ships, the visitors could see the weapon display and thus familiar with the equipment and activities of the Croatian Navy.
In the afternoon, in the Church of the Queen of Heaven and Earth in Ploce, a Holy Mass led by the Military Ordinary Monsignor Juraj Jezerinac was held. In addition to the members of Navy, the representatives of the county and the town of Ploce and many local citizens attended the service.
After the Mass, and in organization of the city of Ploce, the exhibition “From the Tablet to Ploce”, was opened in the pastoral centre. In total more than 50 photographs which represented a photographic story of the historical development of the city of Ploce has been exhibited. The exhibition was visited by the Croatian Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic, who also attended the concert organized by the Croatian Navy. The concert was also attended by the Deputy Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Slavko Baric, Croatian Navy Commander Rear Admiral (UH) Ante Urlic and numerous other guests. Besides Navy Orchestra, some of our most popular singing groups performed at the concert as well.
The central ceremony will be held in Ploce on Saturday, September 18.
