Three howitzers ceded to training center in Germany
Based on a decision of the Government, Ministry of Defence has ceded three 122-mm D-30 howitzers for training activities in the Joint Multinational Training Centre in Hohenfels in Germany.
The centralized training of NATO forces that would be deployed in the ISAF peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan has been conducted in the Centre. Since the Afghan National Army (ANA) in its arsenal has D-30 howitzers, the need aroused for operational mentor team members in the ISAF for training on handling of this type of weapon. Joint multinational centre did not have these weapons, so they requested CAF for loan. Three howitzers that were sent to centre were not taken from any operating unit but from the reserves. Croatia ceded howitzers free of charge, for a period of one year, with possibility of extension. This was a further contribution of the Republic of Croatia to the ISAF peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan.
