Polish Navy Commander visits Croatian Navy

Polish Navy Commander Vice Admiral Tomasz Mathea with the delegation visited the Croatian Navy in Split from 29 November to 2 December 2010, where he met the Croatian Navy Commander Rear Admiral (UH) Ante Urlic.

During his visit, he was given a presentation on the history, mission and structure of the Croatian Navy and Coast Guard. Polish commander also visited the Navy Command Operations Centre, ships of the Croatian Navy Fleet – “Vukovar” (RTOP-41) and “Kralj Zvonimir” (RTOP-21), and Zrnovnica Missile Base.

On the last day of his visit, 2 December 2010, Vice Admiral Mathea participated in the ceremony of uncovering the memorial plaque for of all Polish officers who were educated at the Imperial and Royal Naval Academy in Rijeka in the 19 century, which was organized by the Polish Embassy in Croatia.
At Rijeka Maritime Academy, located in the building of nowadays Maritime Faculty, were educated many Polish admirals, but also the first Croatian admiral, commander of the Croatian military ship  “Viribus Unitis,” Admiral Janko pl. Vukovic Podkapelski.
