Top athletes received decisions on active military service

Top sportsmen and sportswomen, who have signed a contract with the MOD, received decisions on the active military service, on Monday, March 7, on the Croatian Military Academy Petar Zrinski.

This has been the continuation of implementation of the agreement on cooperation, improvement and development of sport in the Republic of Croatia, signed between the Ministry of Defence and the Croatian Olympic Committee, which enables athletes who have already proven their excellence in the sports field, admission to the CAF. The ceremony attended Chief of the GS Personnel Directorate, Brigadier General Tomo Medved as representative of the Chief of General Staff, Director of the Croatian Military Academy Petar Zrinski, Major General Mirko Sundov and numerous other guests.

When welcoming the assembled athletes and wishing them continued success in both sports, as well as in military life, Brigadier General Tomo Medved pointed out that the status of active duty soldier would enable athletes to further engage in professional sports and achieve excellent results, but that would also mean a promotion for the Croatian Armed Forces.

Following athletes have been admitted to the active military service: Danil Domdjoni (karate), Andreja Djakovic (judo), Bojan Djurkovic (shooting), Sime Fantela (sailing), Filip Grgic (taekwondo), Filip Hrgovic (boxing), Stipe Jarloni (taekwondo), Ivan Kljakovic Gaspic (sailing), Ivana Maranic (judo), Igor Marenic (sailing), Damir Martin (rowing), Tina Mihelic (sailing), Marko Premuzic (parachuting), Martin Sinkovic (rowing), Valent Sinkovic (rowing), Tonimir Sokol (wrestling), Tonci Stipanovic (sailing), David Sain (rowing), Lucija Zaninovic (taekwondo), and Natko Zrncic Dim (skiing).

“I’m very honoured and it is my great pleasure to be in the first generation of top athletes who have been admitted to the active military service. I am happy that I got the chance, and I’m sure that this will be of great help in further training and in the achievement of sports results”, Natko Zrncic Dim said after the official ceremony.
