German military aircraft “F-4 Phantom” landed on Pleso
As part of bilateral defence cooperation between the German Air Force and the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence, on Wednesday, 15 May 2001, the German military aircraft of the type “F – 4 Phantom” landed in Pleso Airbase.
Entry into the Croatian airspace and the arrival at the Pleso airport of the German aircraft was accompanied by MiG 21. German and Croatian pilots were welcomed by the Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence, Brigadier General Drazen Scuri and Ambassador of Germany to the Republic of Croatia Dr. Bernd Fischer. General Scuri in his address stressed that visit happened in the frame of the highly successful long-term cooperation with German partners, and that this visit will be an opportunity for sharing experiences in terms of the use of combat aircraft in NATO’s integrated air defence system. German Ambassador to Croatia, Bernd Fischer stressed that this visit was an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences between NATO allies, and stressed the friendly and collegial relationship between Croatian and German pilots. “This relationship is extremely important for the cooperation of Croatia and Germany in the important mission in Afghanistan”, he added.
Pilots of F-4 Phantom, Colonel Frank Grafe and MiG 21 aircraft Major Zeljko Ninic stressed that this visit will be an excellent opportunity for exchanging experiences between the pilots and aviation-technical staff in terms of pilot training, maintenance and servicing of aircraft.
