Handover of Coast Guard Commander duty
The handover of duty of the Coast Guard Commander from the former Commander Vice-admiral Zdravko Kardum and new Commander Navy Captain Marin Stosic, was held today, on Wednesday, 3 August 2011, in the office of Minister of Defence Davor Bozinovic, and then in the Navy Command in Split.
On this occasion, Minister of Defence Davor Bozinovic thanked Admiral Kardum on his previous work, especially on the highest duties as the Croatian Navy Commander and then Commander of the Coast Guard, while he wished the new Commander Captain Stosic success on the new duty. The transfer of duty of the Commander of the Coast Guard was attended by Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Drago Lovric, and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ante Urlic.
The Coast Guard is one of the units of the Croatian Navy, which task is to protect the rights and interests of the Republic of Croatia at the sea, and the suppression and prevention of terrorism, international organized crime and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, combating piracy and other forms of use of the open sea in the non-peaceful purposes, ensuring navigational safety, search and rescue, marine environmental protection, protection of nature and cultural heritage as well as monitoring of marine fishery. In its work, Coast Guard cooperates with other Navy and Armed Forces units and other state bodies and institutions, in accordance with international law and regulations of Croatia. The Coast Guard in its composition has four patrol ships, rescue boat “Faust Vrancic”, school ship “Andrija Mohorovicic”, water supply ship and two harbours tugs.
Captain Marin Stosic was born in 1956 in Fericanci, he is graduated engineer of maritime traffic, and member of the Armed Forces since January 1992. He held a number of responsible duties in the Navy Command and General Staff of the Armed Forces and he assumed duty of the Commander of the Coast Guard from 1 of August 2011 as the Commander of Navy Fleet. He graduated from the Armed Forces “Ban Josip Jelacic” War College, finished several courses abroad, and has a number of commendations and awards from the Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces, Minister of Defence, Chief of General Staff and Navy Commander. He was awarded with the Memorial of the Homeland War, Memorial of Homeland Gratitude, Order of Croatian Trefoil, Order of the Croatian Three-strand Pattern and Storm Medal.
