20th anniversary of Signal Regiment
The 20th anniversary of the Signal Regiment of the Army was celebrated on 2 September 2011in the 91st Pleso Air Base. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chief of General Staff for Plans and Resources, Lieutenant General Slavko Baric, Army Commander Major General Dragutin Repinc, former members of regiments and other guests.
General Baric in his speech congratulated the staff and praised their work so far. Exactly the communication system gives the best results in achieving compatibility and interoperability with allied and partner armed forces, General Baric said. Likewise, the General stressed the importance of quality education, training and individual training of employees given the present rapid development of communication and information technology.
Army Commander General Repinc recalled that soldiers from the signal branch have invested great effort to make the system effectively started to work. He also noted that the present tasks and activities of the Regiment were specific and that they were performed not only in Croatia but also in international operations as well.
Commander of the Signal Regiment of the Army, Colonel Zdravko Rep talked about the regiment’s establishment. He also emphasized the role of signal branch units in the war, and the current achievements of the Regiment, with an emphasis on new priorities that came by joining NATO and by CAF participation in international operations and missions.
The most prominent Regiment’s employees were awarded, after which the present made a tour of weapon and equipment used by the Regiment.
The predecessor of the Regiment is considered the Signal Platoon of the General Staff, which was established on 4 September 1991. Over the years signal troops passed through several restructuring that lead to the establishment of the Signal Regiment of the Army on July 2007.
