CAF with explosives cleared ice on Drava River near Osijek
Task Force of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, today, 14 February 2012, cleared the ice on the Drava river by using explosives, at a location 26 kilometers far from the mouth of the Drava to the Danube and about five kilometers upstream from the center of Osijek.
This activity has been performed at the request of and in coordination with National Protection and Rescue Department, the Ministry of Interior, Croatian Waters Institution and local authorities.
Deminers from the composition of Engineering Regiment of the Army Training and Doctrine Command today around 12:20 hours scooped out the ice and placed explosive charges, and successfully performed the test detonation. Exactly at 15:56 hours detonations were carried out that liberated waterway for a distance of 150 meters.
This CAF work, which was never previously conducted, should allow further release of the waterway on the Drava River, which will be conducted by icebreaker ships.
