ACO METOC Conference

The three day meteorological-oceanographic conference of Allied Command Operations (ACO METOC Conference) began  today, Wednesday, March 21, at the Croatian Military College “Petar Zrinski”.

More than 40 participants of meteorological profession from NATO and Partnership for Peace countries participate in the conference.
Welcoming the participants of the conference, Brigadier General Vlado Šindler, Commander of Command Operational Centre said that the daily meteorological support for the operation was of great importance. He stressed that meteorology in military actions at the tactical level and in the process of operational planning at the strategic level could have a decisive impact on the successful execution of the task, and timely meteorological (and oceanographic) support, by giving warning of dangerous weather conditions, saves what is the most important and most valuable – human lives. He noted that the Weather Service of the Croatian Armed Forces, though numerically small, traces the development of science and technology and the new challenges ahead of it. One of them is and inclusion in NATO meteorological community.

The conference will among others discuss and exchange experiences on meteorological support to the NATO-led operations, exercise support, will present future training events and courses for meteorological personnel in NATO headquarters, and will consider new system of meteorological equipment and software for the exchange of meteorological data.

This is the eighth such conference, but the first hosted by the CAF.
