Minister Kotromanović attended the commander’s duty handover in Guards Motorized Brigade
Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović attended today, 2 July 2012, the ceremonial handover of commander’s duty of the Guards Motorized Brigade (GMTBR) of the Army in “Kralj Zvonimir” Barracks in Knin.
Former Commander, Brigadier General Mladen Fuzul, led the Guards Motorised Brigade since its establishment in 2007, and this month, he was appointed as Chief of Staff of the Army Command. In the presence of the Minister of Defence, Deputy Chief of General Staff Rear Admiral Zdenko Simičić, Army Commander Major General Dragutin Repinc and Commander of the Army Training and Doctrine Command Brigadier General Ivan Jurić, Brigadier General Mladen Fuzul handed over the command of the Brigade to Colonel Boris Šerić.
On this occasion, the Minister stressed that Guards Motorized Brigade must remain a strong tradition bearer of the four glorious wartime guard brigades. “You have got a great commander who will continue the hard work of his predecessors in developing the brigade capabilities in the defence of the country and participation in international missions. You are required to excel, and to achieve the highest standards of professionalism and expertise, the Ministry of Defence will provide you the optimum conditions for life and work”, the Minister said when addressing the members of the Guards Motorised Brigade. He stressed that the intensification and increase in the amount of training and raising the level of interoperability with the allied armed forces would be the challenges facing the Croatian Armed Forces in the future.
The new brigade commander, Colonel Boris Šerić, was born on 4 January 1968 in Solin. He is a member of the Armed Forces since 1991 and active participant in the Homeland War. During service in the Armed Forces, he was, among others, deputy commander and commander of the anti-tank missile battalion and rocket-artillery battalion of the 4th Split Guards Brigade, Commander of the 658th Artillery Rocket Brigade, and teacher in the department of land operations in the Military Academy “Petar Zrinski”. For his work he was repeatedly commended and awarded wit the Memorial of the Homeland War, Order of Croatian Trefoil, Order of the Croatian Three-strand Pattern and with the medals “Storm” and “Extraordinary undertakings”. He graduated from the Command and Staff College “Blago Zadro” and completed several courses in the country and abroad. Before taking over as commander of the Guards Motorised Brigade, Šeric graduated from the War College “Ban Josip Jelačić”, at the Croatian Military Academy “Petar Zrinski”. He was a participant in several international peacekeeping missions.
