Coast Guard still searching for missing Croatian citizen from Gallia

At the request of the National Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Rijeka) today, Sunday, July 8, the Coast Guard ship “Faust Vrančić” was sent in the area of ​​the search and rescue operation to search for the missing crew member from the merchant ship “Gallia” sailing under the flag of Liberia.

According to the information received from the National Maritime Search Coordination Centre (MRCC) from Bremen, the person is a Croatian citizen, born in 1966. Commercial ship “Gallia” sailed from the port of Limassol to port of Trieste, and the Coast Guard started search and rescue operation upon the request from the MRCC Rijeka on Friday, July 6, with two Pilatus PC-9 aircraft.

During yesterday, Saturday, July 7, the aircraft of the Coast Guard, along with the two Coast Guard helicopters of the Italian Republic, searched the area (the area of ​​sailing zone southwest of the island of Palagruža) on three occasions. The Italian aircraft have been still involved in the operation together with the rescue boat of the Croatian Coast Guard.

Commercial ship “Galia” today, on Sunday, in the morning, continued to sail towards the port of Trieste.
