5th anniversary of the Coast Guard

5th anniversary and the Day of the Coast Guard was celebrated today, October 5, in Lora Naval Base in Split.

The ceremony was attended by the Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ante Urlić, also the representative of the Minister of Defence and Chief of General Staff, and the Commander of the Coast Guard Captain Marina Stošić. The ceremony was also attended by representatives of the city, county, university community and the institutions that have been involved in monitoring and protecting the rights and interests of the Republic of Croatia at sea.

Commander of the Coast Guard delivered commendations to individuals and organizations who have contributed to the formation and the development of the Coast Guard, as well as to Navy Commander Admiral Ante Urlić, to the first Commander of the Coast Guard Vice Admiral Zdravko Kardum, to maritime police station Split, and to the Port Authority Split.

The speakers pointed out that the Coast Guard, as a component of the Croatian Navy, through five years of existence, has achieved remarkable results, and has become established as an indispensable service of Croatia in protection of its interests at sea. It was also mentioned that the Government decision to build new patrol ships brought a lot of joy and optimism among members of the Coast Guard. Furthermore, it was emphasized that the fundamental strength of the Coast Guard were young, highly trained and motivated professionals. They are the creative force that multiplies the capabilities and provides assurance that the Coast Guard along with other government agencies will be ready for new challenges and risks in the protection of national interests at the Croatian sea.
