The best CAF soldier competition
By the victory of Corporal Dominik Kuček, member of the Infantry Regiments of the Training and Doctrine Command of the Croatian Army, today, 6 October 2012, two days of competition for “Best CAF member – first for Croatia” was completed.
The NCO chain of support and Guards Armoured Mechanized Brigade organized the competition. The competition was held at the “Gašinci” military training facility and in the nearby area, with participation of 40 members from all services of the Armed Forces and larger units.
Competitors had to prevail almost 40 kilometres over the control and operating points, by rowing, running or walking, overcoming obstacles, shooting from pistols, rifle and antitank weapons, and throwing grenades,. They had to demonstrate the ability of orientation, care of wounded, establish radio links, as well as show the knowledge of the topography.
The final part of the competition was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces, including Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Drago Lovrić, Army Commander Major General Dragutin Repinc and Support Command Commander Major General Mate Ostović. Conferring awards and congratulating the best, Kotromanović and Lovrić stressed their pleasure with the competition, as well as its importance to the training and readiness of all members of the Armed Forces.
Winner, Corporal Kuček, passed the track in 8 hours 56 minutes and 5 seconds. Second, Captain Ivica Krizman (93rd Air Force Base of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence) came after 5 minutes and 49 seconds, and the third, Sergeant Gordan Barić (Special Operations Battalion) was late 13 minutes and 24 seconds.
