Member of 20th HRVCON in ISAF slightly injured

A member of the Croatian contingent in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, private 1st class F.M., today, 21 October 2012, in the afternoon, during an organized cleaning of weapons at Camp Marmal, in Mazar-e Sharif, suffered a left hand injury.

During the performance test of official pistol, the private, in the place intended for the cleaning of small arms, inadvertently inserted bullet into the barrel and, ​​after removing the frame, made a fire test, shooting himself in the palm of his left hand. First aid was provided to him by the doctor in the Camp and then he was transported to the hospital in Marmal Camp. The examination found that a bullet injured soft tissue and vessels, and there was no bone damage. All the vital functions work properly and according to the doctor he will probably not have serious consequences or permanent disability. According to the doctor, F.M. will remain in the hospital for a few days due to cleaning and bandaging of the wound contaminated by gunpowder particles.

Other members of the Croatian contingent were not affected by this incident nor there was any property damage. Military police inspected the area and conducts further investigations regarding the circumstances of the occurrence of this event.
