9th HRVCON UNDOF arrived to Zagreb
Members of the 9th HRVCON returned today to Pleso Airport, November 30, shortly after midnight, from the UNDOF mission on the Golan Heights, where they were welcomed by the Command Operational Centre Commander Brigadier General Ivan Jurić.
They arrived to Croatia several hours late because the convoy, in which they were Croatian and Austrian soldiers, was attacked on the way from the Golan Heights to Damascus. In the attack, which occurred near the airport in Damascus, none of the members of our contingent was injured. Four members of the Austrian Armed Forces were wounded, but were not in life danger.
The convoy consisted of about 25 vehicles.
Upon arrival at the Pleso Airport, Contingent Commander Major Davor-Josip Babić said there was no panic among the troops and that they reacted calmly. Corporal Goran Ledinski noted that, given the situation they were, they reacted in the right way, which confirmed that the preparations they have gone before going to the mission were good.
One of the members of the 9th HRVCON, Corporal Alen Pintar, who was already in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, said that the situation was not pleasant, “but we are soldiers, it is our job, and we were trained for it. We did our job as we should”.
“I congratulate you on an excellent job”, said the Commander of the Command Operational Centre, Brigadier General Ivan Jurić, when welcoming them on behalf of the Chief of General Staff. “You have done your work in the way you were supposed to do it, in compliance with all the plans and procedures of the mission you have been”, General Jurić said.
Members of the second part of the 10th HRVCON who yesterday, November 29, arrived to Damascus stayed overnight at the airport in Damascus.
