Chairman of NATO MC visits MoD

Chief of the General Staff and State Secretary for Defence meet with Chairman of NATO Military Committee General Peach

State Secretary for Defence Zdravko Jakop and the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko Šundov on 16 September 2019 met with the Chairman of NATO Military Committee General Stuart Peach, within the official visit of a delegation of NATO Military Committee to the Republic of Croatia.

State Secretary for Defence Jakop and General Šundov and General Peach discussed Croatia’s membership in NATO and relations with the neighbouring countries and the security situation in the region.

State Secretary Jakop praised the visit of the Chairman of NATO Military Committee and said that Croatia was providing significant contribution to the Alliance, through committed engagement of its armed forces in the operations and missions abroad, affirming the unity and solidarity with the allies.

NATO and Croatia

The State Secretary also underlined the importance of co-operation in southeast Europe and the efforts Croatia has invested to procure stabilisation ans security in the region and pledged support to all aspirant countries.

He also announced that the forthcoming Croatian presidency of the EU would be focussed on reinforcing the transatlantic bond, and dedication to complementarity and compatibility with NATO.

General Šundov extended appreciation to General Peach for his visit and underlined the importance of safeguarding stability and security in southeast Europe.
General Peach congratulated Croatia on its tenth anniversary in NATO, which itself marked the 70th anniversary this year.

“Croatia is a very active partner and contributes to the building of peace and security as one of 29 member nations”, said General Peach.

Previously, the Deputy Chairman of NATO Military Committee General Shepro visited Croatia ahead of the 10th anniversary of the membership in NATO and the 28th anniversary of the Croatian Armed Forces.
