Croatian athletes attend 7th World Military Games in China

The Croatian Military Sport Team competed in archery and track-and-field, among 8000 competitors from 109 countries at the 7th World Military Games in Wuhan, China from 18-27 October 2019.

The Croatian Croatian Military Sports Team was composed of members of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, the Croatian Army, the Support Command, the Croatian Defence Academy “Dr. Franjo Tuđman, the Honorary Battalion, the Croatian Navy and the Military Police Regiment, who competed in archery (25 m pistol Military Rapid Fire Pistol) and in 400m, 800m, 1000m and marathon races.

The Croatian Armed Forces representatives, headed by Lieutenant Colonel Andrija Križanić, were the Captain of the shooting team Lieutenant Colonel Tihomir Galić, and the competitors Captain Željko Posavec, Sergeant First Class Vatroslav Drmić and 1st Sergeant Tihomir Perišić (men’s competitions) and Lieutenant (N) Ana Karaman, 1st Lieutenant Katarina Nekić and 1st Sergeant Marijana Špirelja (women’s competitions).

Captain Posavec and Nadnarednik Drmić reached the finals in individual competitions, and the Croatian archery team ranked 27th.

The track-and-field competitors team included Captain Domagoj Bagarić (team coach), Captain Ivan Gerenčir, Sergeant First Class Danijel Katalenić, Corporal Nikola Špoljar, Private Kristijan Sušilović and cadet Tajana Židov (ranking 15th in the 400-m race).

In the marathon race Corporal Špoljar ranked 67th, Sergeant First Class Katalenić ranked 73rd and Captain Gerenčir 78th respectively.

The Croatian marathon team ranked 16th in a competition dominated by professional athletes.

Some 8,000 athletes from 109 member countries of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) took part in the World Military Games , in 32 sport disciplines, with a total of 1,021 medals won.

The Chinese athletes have won the most medals (239 medals, 133 gold), followed by Russia (161 medals, Brazil (88 medals), France (57 medals ) and Poland (60 medals).
