German Defence Attaché receives Croatian Trefoil
The successful bilateral co-operation was crowned with a visit of the German Minister of Defence Ursula von der Leyen to the Republic of Croatia in October 2017 and my return visit to Germany“, said the Minister.
The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević on 31 August 2018 presented the outgoing Defence Attache of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Croatia, Lieutenant Colonel Janus Sebastian Kaschta with the Order of Croatian Trefoil for the outstanding contribution to the development of bilateral defence co-operation between the Republic Croatia and the Federal Republic of Germany, pursuant to the Decision of the President of the Republic of Croatia as Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces.
The award ceremony was attended by the Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko Šundov, the Special Advisor to Defence Minister Božo Kožul, the Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Petar Mihatov, and other representatives of the Ministry of Defence and of the Croatian Armed Forces, as well as by the Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Croatia Harald Seibel and the new Defence Attaché,Lieutenant Colonel Dirk Bocklet.
Minister Krstičević stressed that during his three-year office as defence attache Lt. Col. Kaschta gave significant contribution to the intensive and productive bilateral defence co-operation between the Croatian and the German ministries of defence.
“Over the period our two countries have continued the intensive co-operation, particularly in education and training, joint participation in missions and military-technical co-operation, focussed on strengthening NATO’s capacities and building defense capabilities of the European Union, with the aim of responding to today’s security challenges. The co-operation has grown into a productive and privileged partnership” said the Minister.

Appreciating the Minister for the received decoration Lt. Col. Kaschta praised the successful co-operation with the Ministry of Defence. “It is a major recognition and honour for me to receive the decoration, and will wear it proudly on my return to Germany. My experiences from Croatia are invaluable; the Croatian Armed Forces have a great yet demanding future“.
