Minister Anušić: BMT Has Proven to Be a Successful Project
The First Intake of Conscripts Is Completing Basic Military Training, and in Ten Days a New Generation Will Arrive at The Barracks
The first intake of conscripts will complete Basic Military Training tomorrow, and in ten days a new generation will arrive at the barracks. On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić spoke to the media in Đakovo today about the progress of training for the first intake of conscripts.
“Two months have passed very quickly and, out of the 800 conscripts undergoing Basic Military Training, around 260 have at this moment expressed interest in remaining in the Croatian Armed Forces. This is a very significant number and a great source of optimism for strengthening the Armed Forces, the reserve component and, in general, for the overall success of the Basic Military Training project.”
Minister Anušić also announced the start of training for the second intake: “As early as 18 May, the second intake will enter the barracks, with the number of conscripts increasing from 800 to 900.”
A total of 847 young men and 53 young women will arrive at the barracks in Knin, Slunj and Požega.
“The response has been excellent, as was the case with the first intake. We are maintaining the number of conscientious objection requests at between two and three percent, which is above all expectations. We had expected a far higher percentage, but this is phenomenal,” Minister Anušić said.
