Minister Anušić received for an inaugural visit H.E. Pawel Czerwinski, the Polish Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia

Stronger interoperability, cooperation, and protection of NATO’s eastern flank are the outcomes of Croatia and Poland’s successful cooperation within the Battle Group in Poland, said Defence Minister Anušić

On Wednesday, 7 February 2024, Pawel Czerwinski, the Republic of Poland’s Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia, paid his inaugural visit under the auspices of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić.

During the meeting, the strong bilateral defence cooperation between Croatia and Poland was reaffirmed. Other topics of discussion included the security situation in Southeast Europe, assistance to Ukraine, and the modernisation of the Croatian Armed Forces.

On this occasion, Minister Anušić emphasised that Croatia and Poland are strategic partners in the field of defence. He pointed out that he and Admiral Hranj had visited the members of the Croatian contingent who participate in the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) activity in the Republic of Poland.

“Our successful cooperation within the Battle Group Poland brings tangible results in strengthening interoperability, cooperation, and the protection of NATO’s eastern flank,” stated the minister.

He further mentioned the ongoing modernisation initiatives and increased investment in the development of CAF capabilities.

Regarding the security situation in Southeast Europe, the minister stated that the Republic of Croatia continues to prioritise the area and added: “We consistently advocate the Euro-Atlantic perspective of the countries in the region and will continue to do so. I appreciate your assistance thus far and will count on it in the future.”

Ambassador Czerwinski commended Croatia and Poland for their outstanding defence cooperation.
He emphasised that Poland strongly favours having more NATO members on its territory, which is why Croatia’s contribution is much appreciated.

In terms of defence cooperation, the Republic of Poland is one of the Republic of Croatia’s main strategic allies and partners. When it comes to special forces, military police, and military educational institutions, the two have excellent cooperation. They also effectively cooperate in conducting training and exercises. Many Croatian officers are stationed in the Republic of Poland in different NATO HQs and multinational entities. The 13th Croatian contingent, consisting of 69 Croatian military personnel, has been deployed in Poland as part of NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence activity.
