Minister Krstičević meets with EU HR for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

First meeting of Minister  Krstičević with the new EU High  Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell Fontelles

On the margins of the visit of the College of the EU Commissioners headed by the President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen to Zagreb the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević on 10 January 2020 met with the Vice President of the EU Commission and High EU Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell Fontelles.

Minister Krstičević presents four defence-related priorities

Minister Krstičević presented the priorities and activities of the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU within the domains of defence and security, and underlined the four main priorities – continued implementation, consolidation and coherence of the Eu defence initiatives (PESCO, CARD, Military Mobility, European Defence Fund), enhancing the EU-NATO cooperation and the transatlantic link, advancing the research and industrial dimension, and stepping up EU’s security and defence-related endeavours  in southeast Europe.

HR Borrell Fontelles: Best wishes for a successful presidency of the EU

High Representative Borrell extended best wishes to Croatia and Minister Krstičević successful presidency of the Council of the EU.

Minister Krstičević and the High Representative Borrell Fontelles discussed the current security challenges in the Middle East and the future co-operation, particularly in view of the preparations for the upcoming defence ministers meeting to be held in Zagreb on 4 and 5 March 2020.

Conference “EU-NATO co-operation”

The Minister also announced the conference on the EU-NATO co-operation scheduled during the Croatian Presidency of the EU and co-organised by the Croatian and the German defence ministries in Split.
