Slovenian Ambassador pays an inaugural visit to Croatian MOD
Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ivan Anušić received for an inaugural visit the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, Gašper Dovžan at the Croatian Ministry of Defence
On Friday, February 9, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ivan Anušić received for an inaugural visit the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Croatia, Gašper Dovžan, at the Croatian Ministry of Defence.
The meeting participants reaffirmed good neighbourly relations between Croatia and Slovenia and excellent defence cooperation in all functional areas, at the bilateral and multilateral level, within the framework of NATO and the EU, regional initiatives and projects. They emphasised significant cooperation in the field of education, training and exchange of information in crisis situation management, as well as joint participation in the KFOR mission in which the two neighbouring countries make a joint contribution to regional security.
In this context, Minister Anušić and Ambassador Dovžan discussed current security challenges with special emphasis on the region of Southeastern Europe, expressing their concern about the potential spillover of global instability caused by the Russian war in Ukraine across this region.
Minister Anušić pointed out that the Euro-Atlantic perspective of the region is a key element for a prosperous and secure future of this region. This is something that Croatia strongly and consistently argues for and will continue to do so in the future.
“Croatia is committed to building security, stability and resilience of the Western Balkans region. We are aware of the importance of integrating the regional countries into European and transatlantic structures. It is our opinion that the EU and NATO should be constantly focused on our immediate neighbourhood and on the construction of a safe and stable environment,” the Minister said, concluding that the factors of instability present in the area in our immediate vicinity require even stronger engagement from Croatia and Slovenia.
Slovenian Ambassador Dovžan thanked the Croatian side for providing firefighting assistance and clearing the debris caused by stormy weather in Slovenia last year with the engagement of CAF members and equipment.
