Defence minister receives an inaugural visit from ambassador of Germany
The Defence Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Josip Buljević on 2 February 2016 received an inaugural visit from the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Croatia, H.E.Thomas E. Schultz.
The Minister and the Ambassador hightlighted the excellent bilateral relations and a continuous and productive co-operation in defence and security. Minister Buljević stressed the Federal Republic of Germany as an important ally and partner of the Republic of Croatia in NATO and the EU with respect to the contribution to the European and global security and to the building of defence capabilities and the modernisation of the Armed Forces.
Minister Buljević informed Ambassador Schultz on the upcoming priorities in the defence domain and highlighted that the current priority of the Government and of the Ministry of Defence was to consolidate public finances and to develop of the budget for the current year.
The two sides exchanged views on the prospects and concrete areas for future defence cooperation, particularly through continued participation in missions and operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo, and in cooperation in combating terrorism and radical Islam. They also addressed the expectations related to the upcoming NATO summit in Warsaw and stressed the importance of joint efforts towards enhanced stability of southeast Europe through optimised Euro-Atlantic perspective of the NATO and the EU aspirants from the region, primarily through enhancing their institutional capacities.
Minister Buljević praised the ongoing process of equipping and modernisation in co-operation with the Federal Republic of Germany.
Ambassador Schultz also expressed commitment to continuing the co-operation in the domain of defence capabilities and joint response to the current security threats.
Ambassador Schultz was accompanied by the German Defence Attaché to the Republic of Croatia, Lieutenant Colonel Janus Sebastian Kaschta.
