Minister Anušić Meets with Hungarian Defence Minister Ruszin-Szendi
First meeting between the two defence ministers following the change of government in Hungary
Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić met with his Hungarian counterpart, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, in the border town of Lenti, Hungary
Following the change of government in Hungary, this marked the first bilateral meeting between Minister Anušić and the new Hungarian Defence Minister. Consequently, the encounter provided an opportunity for the Croatian side to convey key messages regarding the security and geopolitical situation in Southeast Europe. It also served to establish an advanced level of bilateral defence cooperation.
The two ministers discussed expanding opportunities for defence industry cooperation, with Minister Anušić presenting Croatian defence companies and their products that could be of interest to the Hungarian Armed Forces.
Minister Anušić invited the Hungarian Defence Minister to ASDA, the international exhibition of weapons and military equipment scheduled to take place in Zagreb from 27 to 29 April 2027. He also extended an invitation to visit Laslovo, a predominantly Hungarian-populated village in eastern Croatia that heroically defended itself during the Homeland War and suffered heavy casualties during the Greater Serbian aggression.
The two ministers concluded that while bilateral defence cooperation between Croatia and Hungary remains strong, there is a clear desire to make further progress. Maintaining stability in Southeast Europe remains a key mutual interest.
Minister Anušić welcomed the political changes in Hungary. Regarding the situation in Southeast Europe, he pointed out to the new Defence Minister that Serbia is substantially arming itself with offensive systems and possesses Chinese hypersonic missiles with a range exceeding 400 kilometres.
