Minister Buljević meets with Governer of Minnesota

The Croatian Defence Minister Josip Buljević and the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov on  2 July 2016 received a visit from the Governor of Minnesota, Mark Dayton, and the Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard, Major General Richard Nash, within a two-day programme marking the 20th anniversary of the co-operation between Minnesota and the Republic of Croatia.

 

The two sides used the opportunity to review the global security and political situation; Minister Buljević stated the Croatian views on the main security threats faced by the democratic world and emphasised the indispensable role of the United States of America in engineering the responses. 

Regarding the bilateral co-operation, Minister Buljević reminded that the United States of America were Croatia’s strategic partner and Ally, which has over the past 20 years significantly contributed to the development of the Croatian defence capabilities. The two countries have developed most productive co-operation in the domains of education and training, equipment and modernisation of the Croatian Armed Forces, and in joint contribution to the stability and international security, which has been recognised as the most visible and concrete examplification of the excellent bilateral relations in general.

Governer Dayton and General Nash emphasised the importance of the partnership between Minnesota and the Republic of Croatia and of the20-year long military co-operation between the Croatian Armed Forces and the Minnesota National Guard, which brought about joint participation in ISAF and other functional areas. Governor Dayton and Minister Buljević reiterated the commitment to continued co-operation to be further expanded, bilaterally and within the U.S. Adriatic Charter, aimed at assisting the aspirant countries of the region with their accession processes to NATO and the EU. 

The U.S. delegation, headed by the Governer of Minnesota, Mark Dayton,was received by the President of the Republic of Croatia as the Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces, honouring the 20th anniversary of the bilateral military co-operation with Minnesota.

The delegation also visited the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb, and met with the Dean and the teaching staff to discuss the continuation of the academic co-operation, particularly in the domains of information technology and cyber security.
