The oath-taking ceremony for the 14th generation of CDA cadets

The Barracks  “Petar Zrinski” in Zagreb on 24 September 2016 hosted the oath-taking ceremony of the 14th generation of cadets of Croatian Armed Forces (CAF), which also opened the new academic year 2016/2017.

The ceremony was attended by the cadets and other students of the Croatian Defence Academy (HVU) “Dr. Franjo Tuđman”, the Academy staff, the Envoy of the President of the Republic, Maja Čavlović, Deputy Defence Minister Tomislav Ivić, the Chief of General Staff, General Mirko Šundov, the Rector of the University of Zagreb, Damir Boras, heads and commanders of the units of the Ministry of Defence and the Croatian Armed Forces and the cadets’ family members.
The Presidents Envoy congratulated the cadets on passing the selection and called on them to work hard to acquire new knowledge and strive for the best results and highest performance standards.

Deputy Defence Minister, Tomislav Ivić underlined the support by the Ministry of Defence to the joint valuable project of the Croatian Armed Forces and the University of Zagreb. “We shall constantly work on the improvement of the living and studying conditions in the Croatian Defence Academy. The Ministry of Defence is the partner to the cadets who aim for the best performance.

Speaking on the study programmes the Chief of General Staff, General Mirko Šundov said that investing into defence research and education is visible through the security it provides for the country and its citizens.”I am confident that we shall educate the generaitons of officers ready to respond to any challenges.It is through attracting the best personnel that the Armed Forces can efficiently meet all goals”, said General Šundov.

“Lined up before us are the cadets who have fulfilled their first steps and assignments in the military with best results and displayed already to have a high potential as future officers of the Croatian Armed Forces. They possess the enthousiasm and motivation to overcome the efforts awaiting them and to get commissioned as officers qualified to lead the soldiers, NCOs, units and commands”, said the Commander of the Croatian Defence Academy, Lieutenant General Slavko Barić.

The Rector of the University of Zagreb, Damir Boras said that upon graduation the cadets would become top specialists, oficers and commanders and acquire knowledge and skills that will qualify them for the graduate studies. “I am glad that the University co-organises this initiative, which shows that the military study programmes provide high-quality university education“.
The 14th generation has a total of 103 cadets (89 cadets of the 3rd generation of military study programmes – military engineering and military leadership and management – and 10 military pilot cadets, joined by four cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

The military study programmes (Military Engineering and Military Management) are the undergraduate university study programmes designed for the education of future officers of the Croatian Armed Forces. They constitute a collaborative project of the Croatian Armed Forces and the University of Zagreb, comprising eight semesters and 240 ECTS points. The programmes integrate academic modules with integral military training and related activities, providing the cadets with the required competencies for their prospective duties.
