More than 10,000 visitors at Open Day at Zemunik Base

On the occasion of the Croatian Independence Day and Zadar Defence Day  the 93rd Croatian Air Force and Air Defence Base at Zemunik opened its door to the visitors on 8 October 2016.

The visitors were shown the aircraft flown by the Croatian military pilots – the ZLIN 242L, BELL-206B, Pilatus PC-9M, Airtractor AT-802, Canaidar CL-415 and premierly the new scout/attack OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopters.

The Kiowa Warrior helicopters, which constitute a major upgrade of the Croatian Armed Forces flying, scout and attack capabilities,  were delivered to Croatia on 30 July and officially presented on 15 August.
U letačkom dijelu programa sudjelovali su avioni ZLIN 242L, BELL-206B, Pilatus PC-9M, Airtractor AT-802, Canaidar CL-415 and the Aerobatic Team „“Wings of Storm“ performed a flying programme. The Museum of Military Aviation Assets was inaugurated, as well as the MIG-21 flight simulator and an information stand, offering the information on the career in the Croatian Armed Forces and pilot training specifics.

The Commander of the 93rd Air Base at Zemunik, Colonel Karol Lučan commended the respectable attendance of the Open Day. “The Open Day of the Zemunik Base Day and the presentation of the aircraft housed here is our splendid contribution to the commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the Croatian Independence Day and the Zadar Defence Day.  We did expect a good turnout, but the actual figures have pleasantly surprised us“   is a great surprisehas surprised as Premda smo očekivali dobar odaziv, ovako velika posjećenost nas je ugodno iznenadila”, rekao je brigadir Lučan.

“We have today presented the new scout/attack  OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopters for the first time. The visitors could see the first five of a total of 16 helicopters. The donation is to our satisfaction and at this opportunity  I wish to extend the appreciation on behalf of te Base to our U.S. partners and donators“.
