Defence Minister visits Azerbaijan
The Defence Minister, Mr. Ante Kotromanović and the delegation of the Ministry of Defence are paying an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan (6-8 February 2013) during which the Minister is to meet with the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev and the Defence Minister, Mr. Safar Abiyev.
The two sides have discussed the potential for the bilateral defence and military–technical co-operation between the two close countries with comparable history experience as a facilitating factor. Both countries have declared the interest to establish and carry out defence co-operation to the benefit of the two economies as well. Conveying of Croatian experiences from the Euro-Atlantic accession process, defence reforms and attainment of the required level of interoperability have been identified as the introductory fields of co-operation.
“The visit is also an opportunity to present Croatian experience with the Euro-Atlantic integration and the reforms of the defence system that our country was dealing with for an extended period of time. Croatia and Azerbaijan share some similar experiences from their histories. I am confident that Azerbaijan can rely on our experience to shorten the time necessary to attain interoperability and compatibility and tailor the defence system to its needs. We highly regard the Azerbaijan’s contribution to global security, formalised through its participation in ISAF“, stated Minister Kotromanović.
Among the topics discussed were also the peace mission deployment and the current political and security situation in the Southeast Europe and the Caucausus.
At the meeting the Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral co-operation between the two respective Ministries of Defence has been signed.
The delegation’s visit to Azerbaijan is also an opportunity to present the Croatian defence industry to its hosts.
