Zemunik Barracks Open Door Night

Concurrently with the “Night of Museums” taking place throughout Croatia on 31 January, the 93rd Croatian Air Force and Air Defence Base opened its doors for the “Open Door Night”

to nearly 3000 visitors, who had a unique opportunity to see the Zemunik barracks at night, animated by the show of the airplanes and helicopters flown by the Croatian pilots (namely the ZLIN 242 L, the PC-9 Pilatus aircraft, the Bell 206 B Jet Ranger III helicopter, the AT 802 A/F Airtractor and the Canadair CL 415 firefighter aircraft) and to watch the flights with night vision goggles.

The programme also included a prize contest for the youngest visitor called «The prettiest smile of the cockpit»contest and a performance with a parachute by the children from the «Loptica» kindergarten from Zadar. «The prettiest smile of the cockpit» attracted some hundred candidates, and the jury composed of the staff of the Croatian Military Publications Department chose Petra Šarić, Roza Šestan and Tomislav Baždarić as the prettiest and the most photogenic. 1st Lt. Antonia Mutabdžija, flight instructor of the Base presented the young winners with the photo monographs titled «20 years of the Croatian Armed Forces». 

 “The Zemunik Barracks has been the first barracks in Croatia to join the Night of Museums, with a unique opportunity to present the night flying by the Croatian pilots to the wider public. We wished to present an additional attraction for the visitors from Zadar and the surrounding area. The public response has been highly positive, and we hope that it will become a tradition and that we will continue organising the Open Door Night , along with the existing Barracks’s Open Door Day”, stated the Commander of the 93rd Croatian Air Force and Air Defence Base, Lt. Col.. Karol Lučan.
