CAF Winter Championships close in Drgomalj
A formal line-up and victory ceremony held in the “Drgomalj“ Barracks in Delnice on 19th closed the two-day Croatian Armed Forces Winter Championships. 104 participants of the Croatian Armed Forces were divided into four categories.
The giant slalom competition in the Platak Ski Resort near Rijeka was won by 1st Lieutenant Mirela Rašić of the Guards Mechanised Brigade of the Croatian Army (females), and by Cpl Ivan Oštir of the Support Command (veterans). The winners in the senior categories were Major Željko Žugaj of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence and 1st Lt Tomislav Kirasić of the Guards Motorised Brigade of the Croatian Army .
The winners of the military patrol competition for eight four-team members were the Special Forces Command and the Croatian Army’s Training and Doctrine Command respectively.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Special Forces Command and Envoy of the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, who commended the competition in terms of a sport event and and a demonstration of the wintertime operational capabilities of the Croatian Armed Forces members. He commended the organisation level and increased participation of the Championships.
The Championships were organised by the Special Forces Command and the Personnel Management Division, with the support from civilian institutions such as the Croatian Ski Association, the county Sports Centre Platak, the Rijeka Ski Club and the Rijeka-Primorje County Sport Centre.
