Prime Minister tours the Barracks of the 7th Guards Brigade in Varaždin

During the visit of the Government of the Republic of Croatia to Varaždin Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and ministers on 20 February 2019 visited the Barracks of the 7th Puma Guards Brigade.

The Government delegation was received by the Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko Šundov, by the Special Advisor to the Defence Minister Božo Kožul,by the Chief Defence Inspector Major General Slaven Zdilar, the Commander of the Croatian Army Major General Siniša Jurković, the Commander of the Support Command Major General Mladen Fuzul alongside the Commander and members of the 2nd Mechanised Battalion “Puma“.
The delegation  laid a wreath and lit candles in the memorial chapel for the fallen and deceasad members of the 7th Guardss Brigade “Puma”.

Major General Siniša Jurković, and the Commander of the 2nd Battalion Major Zlatko Iživkić  briefed  the Prime Minister on the activities and living and working conditions of the the 2nd Battalion.

The Prime Minister praised the  observed condition of the Barracks and the living and working conditions provided and emphasised that his Government would continue investing into the defence sector.

 

 

The Chief of the General Staff sat the Government strongly supported the development and modernisation of the Croatian Armed Forces, aware of the  the importance of systematic investment in defence, as evident from the increase in the defence budget over the past two years..

The 7th Guards Brigade’s Barracks in Varaždin was officially opened on 20 December 2018, and the successors of the legendary “Puma” in Varaždin arrived on 18 December 2018, having walked  a 184-km march  from Našice.

The return of the Croatian Armed Forces to Sinj, Vukovar, Ploče, Varaždin and Pula under the new operational distribution of the units of the Croatian Armed Forces, focussed on increased security of all areas of the Republic of Croatia, upgraded living and training conditions for the Armed Forces and promotion of the military profession military call and preservation of the values of the Homeland War. The new distribition of the units will also enhance the local population’s perception of the presence of the Croatian Armed Forces as important factor of security.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Tomislav Tolušić, the Minister of Regional Development and European Funds Gabrijela Žalac, the Minister of Administration Lovro Kuščevic, the Minister of Economy Darko Horvat, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Croatian Parliament Defence Committee Anđelko Stričak, the Mayor of Varaždin Ivan Čehok, the Commander of the 7th Guards Brigade Brigadier General Željko Dvekar and  representatives of the defenders’ associations.
