The Croatian Defence Minister, Ante Kotromanović on 16 April 2015 received in visit the new Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency, Jorge Domecq.
They discussed the participation of the Republic of Croatia in the projects ran by EDA and the preparations for the European Council meeting to be held in June 2015.
Speaking of co-operation of Croatia with the EDA, Minister Kotromanović stressed the Agency’s role in fostering European defence industry and of the defence capabilities of the member countries, and by extension on EU common security and defence policy. “We see the European Defence Agency as an important platform and mechanism for strengthening and further development of European defence capabilities, fostering the common security and defence policy. Croatia has recognised EDA’s priority areas, and will join more projects of interest“, said the Minister.
Minister Kotromanović underlined the capacities and achievements of the Croatian defence industry and praised EDA’s support to the small and medium-sized companies and participation in co-operation projects, primarily in the dual use research programme.
Chief Executive Domecq stressed that in less than two-year membership time span Croatia has taken part in major projects by EDA, such as the implementation of the Single European Sky, and noted that EDA had the means to ensure valuable support to the national defence industry, particularly the small and medium-sized companies.
CE Domecq met with other senior officials of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, where he had talks with various representatives of the Croatian defence industry.
