Croatian Parliament passes Act on Establishment of Defence and Security University
“We shall establish an organisation capable of bringing up leaders for the Croatian Armed Forces and other Homeland Security System”, said the Defence Minister
The Croatian Parliament at the session of 26 March 2021 passed the Act on the Establishment of Defence and Security University, with 83 votes in favour, 41 against and three abstentions.
At the presentation of the Bill on the Establishment of the Defence and Security University the Defence Minister Banožić stated that 30 years from the establishment of the Croatian Armed Forces the Bill laid a permanent framework for education of future officers and of the personnel of other bodies of the Croatian Armed Forces related to the homeland security system, as well as the framework for the development of science in the domain.
“No institution in the Republic of Croatia does research in the domain of defence sciences and the University will ensure the basis for their development and compensate for the lack of institutions for defence and strategic research in the sector of defence and of other components of the Homeland Security System”, said the Defence Minister.
Minister Banožić emphasised that the Defence and Security University as a higher education and research institution ensured the participation on an equal basis in international defence-related research projects and the development of joint military education curricula, to enable strong international affirmation of the Croatian Armed Forces.
“An objective outlined during the establishment of the Defence and Security University is to create the conditions in the long-term to issue certificates and diplomas of the military education system as valid public documents, in support to the transition of military personnel to their second careers outside the defence system”. The Minister also stated that military education was a demanding and specific domain comprising a wide range of activities.
“Working together we shall establish an organisation capable of bringing up leaders for the Croatian Armed Forces and other components of the Homeland Security System. In the year of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Croatian military, the Act on Establishment of Defence and Security University “Dr Franjo Tuđman” laid the foundation for a highly important education segment which will guarantee sustainability and quality of the staff of the defence and Homeland Security System”, said the Defence Minister.
